The hens are allowed to forage for insects, and enjoy a more natural diet, which tends to contribute to the eggs’ quality and taste.

When you buy our eggs, you may notice that there are lots of eggs with different colors. Eggshell color is determined by the breed of the hen. The most common shell colors are white and brown, but there are also blue, green, and even speckled varieties depending on the hen's genetics. For example:

  • White eggs: Hens with white feathers and earlobes typically lay white eggs.
  • Brown eggs: Hens with red feathers and earlobes usually lay brown eggs.
  • Blue or green eggs: Some breeds, like the Araucana and Ameraucana, are known for laying eggs with blue or green shells.

The color of the eggshell does not affect the egg’s nutritional content or taste. However, brown eggs are often associated with free-range or organic farming, leading some consumers to believe they are more nutritious, though this is a misconception. All farm fresh eggs are not only flavorful, but they do offer more health benefits than store bought commercial eggs for a few reasons! The first is that our hens are able to pick their diet with minimal supplementation of feed and the feed they do receive is organic and non-gmo. This means that our eggs typically have higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and vitamin E in comparison to conventional store eggs. Eggs are a rich source of protein as they contain all nine essential amino acids, choline, which helps support brain health and cognitions as well as higher levels of antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin which has been shown to help reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration! You are certainly making a great choice by eating eggs, but farm fresh eggs pack an extra punch of health.
